Egremni Beach

Porto Katsiki Beach

Porto Katsiki is a multi-awarded and prominent beach -listed as one of the 10 best beaches in the Mediterranean. As a place of stunning natural beauty, the beach offers one of the most impressive themes that Lefkada Island is famous for. It is world-famous for its impressive landscape and crystal turquoise sea and it is located at the bottom of a concave pale cliff.

Agios Ioannis Beach – very close to Niver Suites

Agios Ioannis is one of the first choices thanks to its proximity to the city center and the unique character that it can display. At the very left end of the shore you will find the small chapel of Agios Ioannis Antzousis, built literally into a rock in 65 AD by the Franks.

Kathisma Beach – very close to Niver Suites

Kathisma Beach, facing the Ionian archipelago, is the island’s prime beach. You can reach it easily by car, scooter, taxi, or by public transport after having enjoyed a pleasant route with exceptional views on the west coastline. One of the longest beaches of Lefkada with fine white sand and sparkling waters of amazing turquoise color. Agios Nikitas & Milos Beach – very close to Niver Suites

Agios Nikitas is a tiny unique picturesque waterfront village facing the open Ionian sea and it is ideal for relaxation and stress release. 

You can reach Agios Nikitas village easily by car, scooter, taxi, or by public transport and it is located very close to Kathisma Beach. After reaching the area, take the stone pedestrian street down to the little port. You will walk through the traditional houses and small taverns while smelling the flowers and listening to the cicadas. A typical euphoric Greek summer atmosphere that will remain unforgettable. Once you arrive, you will gaze the small bay with bright light blue colors. It looks like a piece of heaven. The impressive green surroundings boasts an amazing scenery of natural beauty. There are no sun loungers and umbrellas, but the atmosphere here can turn very cozy, as you simply get the feeling of an open balcony to the sea with a magical view. 

There is also a hidden jewel on the south of Agios Nikitas village, called Milos Beach. The beach still remains quite unspoiled and original with shiny golden sand. Nowadays, it is accessible either by boat from the village or by walking through the paths around. The interminable beach stretches for many kilometers, so nudists also have their own spot there.

Agiofili Beach

When it comes to Agiofili Beach you can think of a little piece of heaven in the south of Lefkada. Pure pebbles, evergreen hills submerging in crystal turquoise waters and a scintillating sunset that everybody sticks around to see. This miraculous coast is quite unspoiled and original like a tropical paradise.

Agiofili Beach is located just a few kilometers away from Vasiliki, a waterfront village accessible by car, scooter, taxi or by public transport. There is a boat from Vasiliki that departs from the little port where the restaurants and cafes are, while there is also a route by car and a parking lot on top of the beach.

Gialos Beach

Gialos is one of the longest beaches of Lefkada located 35 km southwest next to the famous Egremni and Porto Katsiki Beach. It doesn’t get that crowded like most of the beaches of the island but it is equally beautiful with unique features. Part of it is well-organized with sunbeds and umbrellas, but in places it can be totally private. It is accessed by car, scooter or taxi through a narrow road from Athani village.

There is a parking area and a cafe with view over the Ionian Sea. The sand on the beach is a bit rougher compared to other beaches in the area. You can also visit it with a private yacht on your exploration of the west coast.

Kavalikefta & Avali Beach

Below the settlement of Kalamitsi, along the western coastline and within short distance of the village, you will discover the beach of Kavalikefta. It is accessed by car, scooter or taxi and it is located 15 km southwest of Lefkada. Close to the seashore there are many rock formations that give a wild aspect to the beach. The beach is peaceful, secluded, without tourist development, very beautiful with crystal blue waters, white pebbles and fine golden sand. The way to Kavalikefta passes through vast olive groves and a narrow road.

There is also another hidden jewel below Kalamitsi village, called Avali Beach. The beach still remains quite unspoiled and original with shiny golden sand. Its name in dialectic lefkadian language reveals its nature: a small bay protected from the big waves. Here the visitor can discover a peaceful place to enjoy the stunning views over the Ionian Sea and spend some quality time.

Pefkoulia Beach – very close to Niver Suites

Pefkoulia Beach lies on the west coast of Lefkada, about 20 minutes drive southwest of the city center. It is one of the most easily accessible beaches by car, scooter or taxi. Pefkoulia Beach is sandy, vast and elongated, facing the Ionian archipelago. There are facilities like sun loungers and umbrellas, a café-restaurant and a parking lot. 

If you drive towards Pefkoulia from Lefkada town, it is highly recommended to stop at the side just before you arrive. From there you can enjoy exceptional views over the west coastline of the island and the village of Agios Nikitas. The views over Pefkoulia Beach are gorgeous especially the day after a storm, as the white limestone sand at the bottom of the sea is washed up and forms amazing patterns of light blue and white colours.

Mikros Gialos Beach

Mikros Gialos Beach is located on the south part of the island next to Poros village and it is accessed by car, scooter or taxi.  The long sandy bay forms a stunning landscape that will remain unforgettable. The scenery is the perfect combination of white, azure and green colours since the coast is nestled within evergreen hills and white small pebbles. The beach is ideal for total relaxation and unique contact with nature.

The sea is almost always calm since it is in a sheltered bay and thus your sight will rest while looking at the silvery waters and following the wriggling coastline. The crystal clear waters of Mikros Gialos are available for docking the excursion boats, as the visitors will also find umbrellas and sunbeds on the beach, traditional taverns and cozy cafes.

Vasiliki Bay

A fishing village that turned out to be a famous place for international lovers of water sports like windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and paddling. Vasiliki is considered to be one of the best Mediterranean spots for windsurfing and it easily accessible by car, scooter, taxi, or by public transport.

Vassiliki beach is a gorgeous elongated natural bay surrounded by green mountains and a valley with abundant olive groves. The most of the beach has pebbles, but on the right side, called Ponti, sand is dominant. The excellent wind conditions allow visitors to enjoy the sea all day long, starting with kayaking in the morning hours and later in the afternoon mastering the sailing or windsurfing techniques. Ammousso Beach

Leaving Vasiliki and heading to Marantochori village will lead you to Ammouso Beach. You can reach it easily by car, scooter or taxi after having enjoyed a pleasant route through the evergreen surroundings and exceptional views over Ithaka island. Upon arrival, you can park easily just next to the coastline.

If you are not a sand lover, then Ammouso Beach is ideal for you. Smooth pure white pebbles combined with crystal clear blue waters in a picturesque location. By the sides of the beach there are some cliffs that offer nice views to the small bay and chances for calm moments and relaxation. Ammouso is a family-friendly spot as it has convenient access and facilities such as umbrellas and sunbeds on the beach, a small tavern and a cafe where you can refresh yourself.

Afteli Beach

Just after the picturesque village of Evgiros, the road continues 3km down to the romantic beach of Afteli, which is not lengthy, though pretty charming. You can reach it by car, scooter or taxi. Framed by green surroundings and with a splendid view of the coastline turns out to be a super alternative destination. Mostly rocky but with crystal clear waters. Nidri Bay

Nidri belongs to the popular spots of Lefkada for water sports and a bunch of fun activities such as water skiing, canoes, pedal boats, motor boats, parasailing, jet skis, banana boats and flyboard. It is located in the eastern coast of the island and it is easily accessible by car, scooter or taxi, as well as public transport on offer. 

Nidri waterfront village is famous for its intense lifestyle and vivid young population. The port area is full of cafes, bars and plenty of restaurants, while a long series of palm trees cover its coastline creating a charming atmosphere From the beach you can enjoy stunning views over the isles of Heloni, Sparti, Scorpidi, Madouri and the famous Scorpios, the private island of Aristotelis Onasis. Desimi Bay

Desimi bay is located on a small peninsula 22 km south of Lefkada town and it is accessible by car, scooter or taxi. The beautiful pebbly beach is just beyond Vlicho village and it is surrounded by a large campsite. The spot is covered by a long tuft of olive trees offering enough shade to the visitors, while the verdant cliff behind the beach provides a magnificent setting. The bay is a nice shelter for fishing boats and small yachts.

Soak up the Lefkada culture at its museums

Apart from the natural sights, Lefkada has rich cultural heritage with which you could become more acquainted by visiting the Archaeological museum in the Town of Lefkada. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to the excavations of the archaeologist William Dörpfeld, who believed that Lefkada was Homer’s historical Ithaca, the birthplace of Odysseus.

The jewel amongst Lefkada’s museums, however, is the Ecclesiastical museum in the Faneromeni Convent. The convent itself is a landmark of the island along with the church of Agios Ioannis which was built in 1477. Another not-to-be-missed site is the Fortress of Agia Mavra, very close to the town. It is nowadays used for hosting cultural events during the summer. 

Lefkada Town is home to a few small museums which are well worth a visit if you have the time. The quaint Museum of Phonographs is to be found just off the main pedestrian street and has an eclectic and fascinating collection of old gramophones, records, photographs, paintings, jewels and musical instruments. If you would like to find out more about the Lefkadians themselves, the Orpheus Folklore Museum could be right up your drómos (street). Situated next to the Agios Spyridon church near the central square, it is devoted to the more recent history of the people of Lefkada, exhibiting objects that recreate the traditional daily life of the islanders and featuring some of the beautiful woven articles traditionally produced on the island. A typical room of a Lefkadian house has also been recreated here.

A very important monument of the island of Lefkada is the Statue of Aristotle Onassis. Right on the port of Nidri, there is a statue dedicated to Aristotle Onassis, the famous Greek businessman that is considered in one of the wealthiest men in the world ever. The statue is overlooking his private island, the famous Skorpios.

The highlight of the cultural heritage of the island is The Sikelianos House in the heart of the city center, which accommodates the homonym museum. It is a special museum that not only exhibits memorabilia of the famous poet, but also makes the visitor travel into every aspect of his life and work through a pioneering architectural and museological approach, work of a group of distinguished scientists.
